In-Home Turn Around

Background

One of the struggles that couples have is being on the same page of parenting. There are different scenarios such as, 1 parent works, the other is home; both parents work; there is a nanny with the kids, single parent; etc, but no matter what the scenario is, I always find that the kids are in control. The kids know how to push the right button to get what they want. Kids are very smart in learning how to play both parents against each other in order to get their outcome. The kids are disrespectful, not listening, having tantrums and sometimes I see picky eaters or even kids sleeping with parents. I am the person that is called when “we have tried everything” with no results.

Methods

In my 4 day program I teach the parents how to parent without blame or shame. I teach them to parent consciously without guilt. To have purpose to the guidance they are giving their children. I teach them how to reward the behaviors they want to continue to see and how to reshape the behaviors that are not serving.

Results

The In Home TurnAround is a 4 day full immersion transformation. By day 4, kids are listening, they are clear on the boundaries, they have choices, they are respectful, they feel heard and safe with their parents.

4 Day In-Home Turn-Around Structure

DAY ONE

Welcome To My World

Today is a day to understand everyone’s model of the world. We each have different filters. The raising by our parents, beliefs we have and values are what creates our filters. Because of these filters we sometimes do not see the same thing in the same way.

DAY TWO

Veenu’s In Charge

Today is about me enforcing the guidelines and boundaries that are already set.

I will spend time with each person individually to see how they view their home life with each other and with others.

DAY THREE

We Work Together

On this day, I work with the parents to integrate what I showed them yesterday on following through, consistency, hand over hand, giving choices, and giving directives vs. asking.

DAY FOUR

On Your Own

Today’s the day that I let the parents do all the re-directing. I do not interfere, however, I will discuss with the parents if they need any coaching away from the kids. The purpose of this is for the kids to get used to parents doing all the redirecting when I am gone. I also look at where were at with the progress.

Case Study - Tantrum

Helping Parents improve their child's disruptive behavior

Introduction

For the sake of discretion, I will be substituting real names with fake ones in this case study. I got to know the Smiths a couple of years back. A dedicated couple who are the parents of three beautiful little girls; Sophie, Isabelle, and Ava, oldest to youngest.

Problem

One of the most common problems that parents face in regards to their children’s behaviour is them turning a deaf ear towards the people they should be obeying and listening to. The Smith family reached out to me with the same issue just a few years ago, explaining how rude and erratic the behaviour of their older daughter, Sophie, was getting to the point that she had to be sent to boarding school. While Isabelle did not exhibit any such behavior, their youngest was starting to mold herself like her oldest sister, throwing fits and tantrums in order to get what she wanted from her parents. They had exhausted numerous venues looking for help to no avail and had finally come to me.

Strategies

I determined that the parents had lost control of their children and began by getting to know them better and forming a respectful relationship with them. I asked Sophie to describe a life she would enjoy at this moment in time and she explained how she would be kind to her friends, obedient to her parents, loving to her sisters, and a good student at school if she got the chance. .

Results

By sharing my own personal stories and connecting with her on shared experiences of feeling unimportant and cast away, I made Sophie realize the new story that she wants to live and can actually live if she tries. Reminding her of this repeatedly instilled a drive in her to achieve her goal and positive changes were visible very soon after.
